Here is the receipe of Rasam.
Rasam Ingredients:
- Tamarind – 1 small cube
- Tomatoes – 3
- Onion – 1
- Garlic – 6 to 7 cloves
- Mustard seeds – 1/3 teaspoon
- Cumin seeds – 1 and a half teaspoon
- Curry leaves – 10 to 12 dried leaves
- Turmeric leaves – 1/3 teaspoon
- Black pepper – 20 pieces
- Whole red chilli – 3
- Green chilli – 3
- Salt – as per taste
- Hing (asofetida powder) – 1/3 teaspoon
- Oil – 2 teaspoon
- Water – 1 litre
- Coriander leaves – 1/4 small bowl.
How to make Rasam
1. Take a bowl and soak tamarind in it for half an hour.
2. Now take a big bowl and sieve all the tamarind pulp in it.
3. Add all the tamarind water in the bowl.
4. Now squash the tomatoes with hand and add all the pulp to the tamarind water. You can seperate the skin of the tomatoes.
5. Now in a mortar take black pepper.
6. Add curry leaves, garlic and one teaspoon of cumin seeds in the mortar and ground it into a course paste.
7. Now take oil in a seperate pan .
8. Add cumin seeds, mustard seeds to the oil.
9. Put whole red chilli into the pan followed by the green chillies.
10.Now add onions and Cook them to golden brown color. Once onions are turned into golden brown color then add mortar paste into the pan.
11. Add turmeric powder, salt and hing to the pan and cook a little bit.
12. Put the tomato tamarind water into the pan and boil the water.
13. Now add coriander leaves and allow the mixture to boil for 5 to 7 minutes.
14. Rasam is ready to serve. Serve it with rice, idli or dosa.
